TBL Plc is a subsidiary of ABInBev. ABInBev is the largest brewer in the world. It has operations in over 50 markets and a presence in 15 African countries. TBL Plc subsidiaries are Tanzania Breweries Limited; Tanzania Distilleries Limited and Darbrew Limited.

TBL Plc has won many accolades in Tanzania. These include the 2015 and 2016 Employer of the Year Award; 2015, 2016 and 2017 Manufacturer of the Year and is the Largest Taxpayer in Tanzania.

TBL Plc’s most popular brands include: Safari Lager, Kilimanjaro Premium Lager, Castle Lite, Castle Lager, Castle Milk Stout, Balimi Extra Lager, Eagle Lager, Eagle Dark, Grand Malt and Safari Sparkling Water. Other prominent brands associated with TBL Plc are Konyagi Gin – one of the most popular spirits in East Africa and Zanzi Cream Liqueur.

TBL Plc is listed on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, employs about 1,500 people and is represented throughout the country with 4 clear beer breweries, a distillery, an opaque business and 10 distribution depots.

Tanganyika Breweries established as an operation of East African Breweries Ltd.

1960

Incorporation of Tanganyika Breweries, a subsidiary of East African Breweries Ltd

1964

Change of name to Tanzania Breweries on formation of Union

1967

Nationalization- 55% Government 45% EABL

1977

Acquisition of 45% EABL shares by the Government

1993

SABMiller buys 50% of TBL (via privatization) to form a JV with Government
The 1st and most Successful Privatization in Tanzania (involving Dar es Salaam and Arusha Plants)

1998

IPO & listing on Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange at Tshs 550/= per share

2011/12

EABL’s 20% disposed via IPO. General public ownership up to 17.6% and SABMiller up to 57.5%

2015

Listed TBL shares at Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange valued at Tshs 14,800/= per share

2016
